Title Chromium Content of Alberta Feedstuffs
Objectives Chromium is fast gaining attention as a trace mineral that could alleviate stress and contribute to improvement of health and productivity of livestock. This could be particularly important when calves are weaned, transported, marketed, mixed and brought together at the feedlot. Since there is implicit suggestion for a Cr requirement for livestock, as a consequence of reported beneficial effects of Cr supplementation, it would be useful to have reliable information of Cr content of Alberta feeds. This study aims to establish baseline data on Cr content of Alberta feeds which the industry, and especially the nutritionists and veterinarians, can use when formulating feeding programs for livestock.
